Heat Spell

It appears that 90 degrees is my breaking point. 90 degrees is where my brain melts and all I want to do is lie on the ground and admit defeat. The thermometer crept above that 90 degree mark before I even made it out of bed today. I knew before I even opening my eyes that the entire day was going to be a constant battle against the heat.

So Alex and I went swimming. We went out for dinner. And when the time came to take pictures, I headed straight for the shade. Though the stand of trees in only a small belt next to the pond, once you enter the inside of their borders, you've entered a different world. Even here, I couldn't hide from the sun.

Nor could I wear the shoes I attempted to wear the rest of the day. I just received these hand-painted beauties in the mail, and put them on immediately. However, my previous blisters weren't approving of the choice. I had to show you anyway. I just love the little birds!

What I could do, though, was catch a glimpse of the house Alex and I are soon going to live in across the water. Yes! We bought a house! I'll be sharing more pictures and details soon. Even if no one is reading these words but me, one day I'll be able to look back on these days as a huge turning point in my life.

Homeowners... I can't imagine.

The Darkening Sky

I had one more post about winter in me, and then-! Summer comes! Over a foot of snow on the ground, and the temperature hits almost 80 degrees.

...What?

We had some incredible record breaking days in Upper Michigan, and it's still far warmer than it has any right to be. The this is, where I live, spring doesn't come until May. At least.

Ever.

I don't know what this weather means (except probably that global warming is something no one should be arguing about) but I do know that rain has been on the air for over a week. And yet, it still won't rain. With buds coming up all over the place, we need it. People have been praying for it. And the sky keeps taking on the color that means rain is immanent, and yet, it doesn't come.

With water on the mind, I threw this outfit together. I might have been looking for an excuse to show you these shoes that I found hiding in a thrift store. I think they're awesome. Especially with this skirt that I found, the same day, at a different store! They might have been destined to come home with me. I'd like to think so. It's the little things.

Shut the Doors and Hide Away

Wildflowers and Weeds thought about hibernating for the winter. It was all settled down to rest, all the words tucked away, and then suddenly, it didn't want to sleep anymore. So by the time winter was actually here to stay, it was time to wake up. You miss too much when you sleep too long.

Because of my work schedule, I ran into this terrible problem of literally not having any daylight to take pictures in, and not being able to find appropriate lighting in my house to make up for it. I had a lucky, rare day where -while it was freezing outside- the sunlight was dancing on everything in sight.

And I spent every minute I had sitting in a room of our big empty house, soaking it up.

October Twilight

The weather has been doing incredibly strange things lately. The last few days have been sweltering hot during the day, but perfect at twilight. Because of the unexpected return to summer heat, I had to take the opportunity to wear a light pencil skirt and this airy white top, which I love. As cliche as it is, when I think about it, I always get excited about wearing white after Labor Day. It must be a leftover from a oft heard dogma during childhood, but I always feel like I'm breaking rules and sticking it to the man.

I'll stop talking now.

I can only wear something like this on a day I don't have to work, because anything light will get destroyed at my job. So I was so excited to have a day off to enjoy this on a weekend.

River was excited to come out and have a bit of a walk too! She loves being outside and purrs constantly on the leash. We keep our cats indoors because it's so much safer than letting them roam, but she is very happy when we play outside together. Min prefers to watch from the window. The leash terrifies her.

The only problem with an outfit like this is that it never quite survives the bustle of the day, the way it looked when I put it on. The shirt managed to stay flat under the skirt until just before I went outside. I wanted to fix it, but when the light starts to fade here, you really have to play beat the clock before all is pitch black. Maybe I'll actually let Alex help next time.

A First Impression... Or Second. Or Third.

Today was a day I've been waiting for for a long time. I've had terrible trouble since moving to this tiny town finding a place to work, so I've been generously supported by my wonderful boy. It was a mixture of not knowing anyone here (and this place is quaint enough that "who you know" is pretty much everything) and not having a vehicle to drive. But I've applied at nearly fifty places, and had several interviews, so I had started to give up hope.

So you can imagine how crucial today was to me - I had a second interview with a potential employer.

I always dress professionally for interviews and the like, even if they're meant to be informal. I just feel like it makes a better impression. And the weather had to be uncooperative, as usual, and as I walked to the interview I got rained on quite a bit. Luckily I had my raincoat and an umbrella!

In any case I'm glad I dressed more formally, because it felt more official when I was asked to start working on Thursday. I'm very excited. I was doubly excited when I stopped into my local bookstore to treat myself to a new book, and discovered that the store manager there is still seriously considering hiring me as well! Apparently things are looking up.

The Wilds Help You Learn Who You Really Are

There's this beautiful place just down the street from me where a large cement run-off pipe takes the groundwater to one of the lakes I can see from my house. It's this gorgeous place, with overgrown grass, old mossy trees, flowers and wild grapes. It was the perfect place to debut some of my local finds. The colors are a bit somber for the season, but I love how cool they felt on this warm summer day. The skirt is the perfect length for me, and I adore the bag and boots. The tights were merely to keep the weeds off of my legs. I didn't want to take chances on poison ivy.
The pictures are self taken, and some altered a little to show the actual colors. Even in partial shade the sun wiped out all of the color the clothes had. Me, I'm just terribly pale.
